lemon tree

shut da!
  1. is a folk song from the album of peter, paul and maryin 1962.it was written by Will Holt in the 1960s.wiki says " The tune is based on the Brazilian folk song Meu limão, meu limoeiro, arranged by José Carlos Burle in 1937 and made popular by Brazilian singer Wilson Simonal".
thinking that in the song the lemon tree is compared to love "Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat."*

When I was just a lad of ten, my father said to me,
"Come here and take a lesson from the lovely lemon tree."
"Don't put your faith in love, my boy", my father said to me,
"I fear you'll find that love is like the lovely lemon tree."

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

One day beneath the lemon tree, my love and I did lie
A girl so sweet that when she smiled the stars rose in the sky.
We passed that summer lost in love beneath the lemon tree
the music of her laughter hid my father's words from me:

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

One day she left without a word. She took away the sun.
And in the dark she left behind, I knew what she had done.
She'd left me for another, it's a common tale but true.
A sadder man but wiser now I sing these words to you:

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat

  2. a very very famous fool's garden song, from the '90s.

i'm sitting here in a boring room
it's just another rainy sunday afternoon
i'm wasting my time i got nothing to do
i'm hanging around i'm waiting for you
but nothing ever happens - and i wonder

i'm driving around in my car
i'm driving too fast i'm driving too far
i'd like to change my point of view
i feel so lonely i'm waiting for you
but nothing ever happens - and i wonder

i wonder how i wonder why yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
and all that i can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
i'm turning my head up and down i'm turning turning turning turning
    turning around
and all that i can see is just another lemon-tree

sing: tap ta ra ree rap ree rap tap tap ta ta ree rap ree rap rap rap tap
    teep dee dap

i'm sitting here i miss the power
i'd like to go out taking a shower
but there's a heavy cloud inside my head
i feel so tired put myself into bed
where nothing ever happens - and i wonder

isolation - is not good for me
    isolation - i don't want to sit on a lemon-tree
i'm steppin' around in a desert of joy
baby anyhow i'll get another toy
and everything will happen - and you'll wonder

i wonder how i wonder why yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
and all that i can see is just another lemon-tree
i'm turning my head up and down i'm turning turning turning turning
    turning around
and all that i can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
